چکیده

RUPTURE of a papillary muscle is a rare complication of myocardial infarction.1 2 The combination of coronary artery disease with severe mitral regurgitation usually results in a rapid, deteriorating course. Not until 1948 was this diagnosis correctly made ante mortem.3 Sanders et al., in 1957, discussed 61 cases of rupture of a papillary muscle and pointed out the important clinical features of this diagnosis.2 A number of other reports have appeared.4 12 With presently available open-heart technics, mitral regurgitation has become a correctable lesion. The present report concerns

A rare complication of AMI is papillary muscle rupture (PMR), occurring in 1% of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Mitral regurgitation related to PMR occurs at a median of 1 day (ranging from 1-14 days) after onset of myocardial infarction. PMR tends to occur in those having a first time AMI and those without extensive collateral circulation. PMR involves posteromedial papillary...

Isolated tricuspid insufficiency.

Isolated tricuspid insufficiency can be a well-tolerated lesion, as illustrated by a 32year follow-up in one patient reported here. A second case of recent onset is also described. The 13 reported cases of isolated tricuspid insufficiency due to trauma can be divided into two groups: ruptured papillary muscle or ruptured chordae tendineae and/or valve. All patients with ruptured papillary muscl...

Nonrheumatic Mitral Insufficiency

Twenty patients with mitral insufficiency (MI) due to ruptured chordae tendineae, papillary muscle infarction, or left ventricular enlargement with no organic disease of the mitral valve have been studied during the past 3 years. Nineteen had valve replacement, and one had plastic repair of ruptured chordae tendineae; all have been followed from 6 months to 3 years. Preoperative data were diffe...

Ruptured Papillary Muscle Following Myocardial Infarction with Long Survival

PONTANEOUS RUPTURE of a papillary muscle of the heart is a rare oceurreniee. Stevenson anid Turner' reported two eases in 6,000 autopsies and Davison2 found three cases in almost 14,000 autopsy examinations. Sanders et al.,3 in 1957, found 56 eases reported in the literature to which they added five cases of their owni. A few case reports have appeared since then,4-7 and Cooley et al.8 refer br...

Ruptured Tricuspid Valve Papillary Muscle in a Neonate with Intractable Persistent Fetal Circulation

Unguarded tricuspid regurgitation (TR) due to a flail tricuspid leaflet is a rare condition of newborn cyanosis. A high perinatal mortality has been associated with this fatal condition. But, there are feasible surgical repairs to improve survival. We report the case of a male full-term neonate with intractable hypoxia. He had profound tricuspid insufficiency and leaflet prolapse caused by a ru...
